I love being a mom. I love having my kids with me

I love being a mom. I love having my kids with me in most everything I do. Learning and living alongside each other has been a blast. It is not always easy, but it is fun.

Choosing to homeschool has meant that life would look different for us. A traditional 9 to 5 just doesn’t have the flexibility I need to live out our ideals.

This is one of the reasons running a business has been a blessing. I am able to flex and I can both educate my kids and help our family financially.

Being able to invest in my creativity and abilities is another benefit. And, my children have a front row seat! There is nothing better than that.

👱🏼‍♀️ I enjoy hiking and being outdoors it is a wonderful reset. My favorite hike so far has been through the Red Woods in California.

👱🏼‍♀️ I love to photograph nature when I am hiking. Light fascinates me, and out in nature is the best place to capture light.

👱🏼‍♀️ I worked as a party planner for a few years. It was so much fun. Everyday was a party! 🎉

My goal is to read three business books each quarter on the areas that I am focusing on in my business. As I read, I am always thinking, planning and strategizing how what I am learning can be implemented into my day-to-day.

Do you feel like you should be further along right now? Are you trying to measure the success of your biz with the one from that Instagram account?

Our brains are always trying to figure out how we are doing. I find myself in that rut of always measuring progress AND always pushing the line of accomplishment out to the horizon.

It is exhausting! But, I found a way to go from comparison to content.

It took stepping back and remembering that I’m here to do something different. I am not running their business I am running mine.

My success, my accomplishments are just that! They are mine. Their success and accomplishments belong to them and that is good.

I find that when I run my own race and keep my eyes on the prize awaiting me I can be content where I am at. I can run at my pace and not grow weary.

It seems so simple, yet it is not easy. If you struggle with this too, let me encourage you to refocus, refine, and run! You got this.

What are you thinking about lately?

Over the last few months I have taken time to stop throughout my day to take note of what I am thinking. It has been such an enlightening experiment.

This little experiment was spurred by reading the Proverb that says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. The writer is saying that our character and actions are largely shaped by what we think about. If what I am thinking about shapes my actions, I want to stop to take note of what I am thinking about throughout the day.

Studies suggest we don’t realize 95% of the things that we think about, and 88% of those thoughts are negative! That is mind blowing.

For instance, I realized that each morning going through my routine I was thinking, “I have to go for a walk today and workout.” That thought came with a negative connotation. It was steeped in a mindset of, “I don’t have control over this, I have to do it or else, oh, poor me, I HAAVVEE to.” It made walking and working out a chore.

But, when I realized what I was thinking, I was able to change that negative mindset into, “I get to take a walk today! I get to exercise and make my body stronger.” This is amazing!

It is amazing that not only do I GET to, but it is also amazing that my body WILL respond in getting stronger and more capable.

These small shifts in mindset have been a game changer for my day. It has even shifted into how I work causing me to be more productive. The weight of the “have to” has lifted.

Every week, rather than thinking “I have to...” about tasks I don’t particularly enjoy, I now shift it into, “I get to do….so that I can…”. Fill in those blanks with what ever you get to do so that you can.

I get to go through my financial reports so that I can have a more profitable business, and my taxes are easier to do.

Let me challenge you, take time to think about what you are thinking about. It might surprise you and give you the power to sift gears to something better and more productive.

Mondays are actually one of my favorite days 😀.

I usually begin my Monday routine on Sunday. I take time during Sunday to get as much as possible ready to make Monday a smooth transition into the work week.

Having things picked up, prepped, and in order makes Monday easier. I can hit the ground with as little resistance as possible.

Some days you just have to embrace the mess!

Running a life and a business is not for the faint of heart. Especially when those worlds are as intertwined as mine. I am a homeschooling mom running a creative business from home.

So while you see a serene home office space, what is going on outside the camera frame can be completely different. But, I have learned to embrace the mess. I have learned to live within the lines of the life I have.

I chose to be a homeschool mom because I wanted to give my children things that they wouldn’t get being in a traditional school.

I choose to run a business because I love to serve others with the gifts that I have been given.

Every day it is worth it. Every day I see glimpses of the benefits in me and in my kids.
